Did you know:
We recently installed 2 350MW Siemens SGT-4000F Open Cycle Gas Turbines that operate on natural gas. These units now account for over 85% of the site’s total generation capacity. The remaining 15% consists of 4 fast dispatch distillate fuelled OCGTs that can deliver a combined 140MW to the NI grid in around 10 minutes during peak demand.
Kilroot Power Station originally consisted of 2 x 300MW conventional heavy fuel oil generation units. During the 80’s oil crisis, these units were converted to coal and operated continuously up until Sept 2023 when they were shut down for the last time.
Together with TTEP Ballylumford, the sites can meet up to 100% of NI grid demand during off peak periods. Combined, the sites represent over 70% of NI’s dispatchable electricity generation capacity.
We currently have an active apprenticeship and graduate program helping to develop the next generation of people and skills necessary to operate into the future.
We are significantly investing in the site. Take a look at what energy might look like in the future at Kilroot here.
