Location: Galway, Ireland
Built: 2006
Fuel: Natural Gas
Capacity: 384 MW
The Tech: A multi-shaft CCGT, which means a shaft line for both the steam turbine (ST) and for the gas turbine (GT), each with its own generator.
The hot combusted gas from the gas turbine flows through the GT exhaust into the Hot Reheat Steam Generator (HRSG) to combine the cycle and generate the steam for the ST, improving efficiency.

Tynagh power station provides a flexible daily electricity product to the Irish wholesale electricity market.
Tynagh is a major player in securing electricity supply to Galway and the west of Ireland, producing 9% of the country’s electricity requirements.
When it was built, it was the only independent CCGT in Ireland.
The plant was built on the land of a disused zinc and lead mine that was active in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Opportunities for future development at the site include flexible, fast starting gas generation designed to complement the fluctuations of wind generation in Ireland.
